Outsourcing And Slaves Taking Roman Jobs

Problems in Ancient Rome

  1. . The reason for outsourcing jobs is to get immediate economic gains for the company,
  2. legionnaires are homeless and jobless.
  3. the streets of Rome were too crowded with homeless and jobless Romans so the government was expected to provide for them but with the numbers so large it was hard to do so many people died.
  4. Romans made the slaves work because they didn't have to pay them but they had to pay citizens but the citizens went to war so slaves took up the jobs.
  5. the slaves were taking jobs and property from legionnaires that left to go to war so when they came back they had nothing.
  6. outsourcing was used to get rid of payable workers so the owner could have all the money and not have to pay the working slaves.
  7. when Romans lost their jobs they went into poverty which started urban decay among Rome.
  8. the Romans needed the slaves for certain jobs but when the slaves took roman jobs nobody filled the slaves jobs
  9. Outsourcing is a fashionable way of solving some business problems, such as efficiency, labor cost, maintenance work and organizational size.

Problems in the United States today

  1. we are getting goods shipped in from china so peoples jobs are being outsourced overseas.
  2. numerous illegal immigrants are crossing the borders even getting more benefits than American citizens.
  3. it often eliminates direct communication between a company and its clients. This may prevent a company from building solid relationships with their customers, and often leads to dissatisfaction on one or both sides.
  4. hiring foreign workers has an immediate effect on the US economy by stripping many Americans of jobs they would have performed, particularly by semi-skilled or skilled laborers.
5. outsourcing has led to job loss in the US, and has had a detrimental effect on those people who may be only minimally qualified to work.

Solutions

To solve the problem of slaves taking Roman jobs I think that Rome should have...

  • Rome could have had the slaves go back to doing what slaves were expected to do like help farmers, be in the military and business and have the homeless and poor Roman citizens that lost their jobs to slaves get their original jobs back.

  • The Roman government could have sent more slaves to war rather than sending citizens because when the citizens were gone slaves took their jobs and when citizens came back from war they had nothing.

  • the owners of the business's could give half of the jobs to citizens and half to slaves so that they only pay have of the people working for them so they still gain money in the business.

Dear Mr Van Minnen,
I am a seventh grade student at Nagel Middle School. We are doing a project in class that requires us to pick a problem in Ancient Rome and find facts to solve the problem then compare it to how it still is a problem in the world today. I chose the topic of slaves taking Roman jobs and outsourcing in Rome and I was wondering if you could answer some questions that I had.

  • Why didn't the government let pour legionaries take over the slaves jobs and be paid by the government for being citizens?
  • Do you have an estimate of how many Romans were unemployed due to losing their jobs to slaves?

Thank you for your time.
